Alopecia is the medical term for baldness, defined as the partial or complete absence of hair from areas of the body where it normally grows. There are various types of alopecia, including alopecia areata which leads to sudden hair loss that starts with one or more circular bald patches that may overlap.

On the other end of the spectrum, it is very common for those undergoing chemotherapy to experience hair loss that can lead to complete baldness.
